Triage is the assessment of victims, such as those occurring in major accidents, disasters, pandemics, and hospital emergency departments, categorizing them according to the severity of their injuries or medical conditions. In the event of accidents or disasters, this is performed by triage nurses from the Regional Medical Assistance Organization (GHOR). It is also used in hospital emergency departments (EDs), ambulance dispatch centers, and general practitioners' offices to determine the urgency and appropriate follow-up actions for incoming patients and telephone calls. The most widely used triage system in the Netherlands is the Dutch Triage Standard (NTS).
